Who doesn’t like free stuff? Yeah, you in the back, put your hand down – we know you’re lying. Well, how would you like some free content for your design work. Can’t beat that, right?
iStockphoto.com actually offers you a variety of free content to entice you in, to try the product. But it’s also a continual benefit for existing customers as well. This is content that is subject to the same license as any other regular download. If you need an extended license you need to purchase one separately.
Why do contributors participate in the free program if they are giving away their wares? Some want to get their work out there, to find it in action. Some hope that you will love their style so much, that you will come and browse more of their portfolio. Some just want to get into the iStockphoto sense of community.
Let’s take a look at the various “Free ___ of the ____’.
Free Image of the Week
Right there, on the front page of iStockphoto.com, you will find a link and snapshot for the “Free Image of the Week”.
When you get to the image page, you’ll find you can download any size image for 0 credits. What a bargain! You will also find that thousands of others have done the same thing. So, I wouldn’t use this image as the main content on any campaign if you thought your competitor might use it as well, but you could certainly work it into all kinds of other designs.
Free Vector of the Month
If you go the main page for the Illustration content of iStockphoto, you’ll find the “Free Vector of the Month”.
Unlike photos, vector images are offered up once a month. Again, though, you can go back and find previous free vectors here. You’ll find the last three offered are still free.
Free Video of the Month
Like vectors, the free video link is found on the homepage for the video content section of the site.
Also like vectors, this is changed out once a month. 3 previous free offerings can be found here .
Free Audio of the ????
Well, audio isn’t live yet. But when it is, I’m sure there will be a free clip of the month on the main audio page.
