Portfolio Update

November 18, 2009

Well, the last of this years Christmas themed stock imagery at iStockphoto.com is working its way through the queue.  I think the below two series really came out well and can be used for a variety of different holiday related advertising.

The first was created specifically for the iStockphoto Vetta collection, and the editors agreed with that goal on most of the images (so that means there’s some bargain pricing on the rest ;) ).  I spent hours cutting holes and poking Christmas lights through a red velvet background.  I hired local artist Tamara Tungate to do hair and makeup for this series and she did a great job.  I think it turned out really well, with lots of copyspace for designers.

The next Santa Elf series is more “fun” and these images can be used to accompany, say, newspaper ads with a white background.  Or as borders above a website.   We’ve got themes like, “running out of time”, “stacks of gifts” and “money”.  This 20 something year old model does great expressions and really adds energy to this kind of imagery.

So, that will probably do it for new Christmas imagery this year.  I am shooting a big Christmas set up this weekend, but I’m going to be tucking that away for next August :) .  You can find the above images in the search linked below.  Thanks!

Portfolio Update

October 15, 2009

Trend studies are showing growing markets in the US for different ethnic groups, including the large and increasing Hispanic population.  Living in the Mid-west, it’s proved challenging to find non-Caucasian models in the past for my stock work.  However, I am attempting to increase the ethnic variety available in my images.  Including this new iStockphoto.com series, with a handsome Hispanic male in some casual and business poses on white.  This model is a singer/promo model and has some great expressions:

Lots more images of that model coming through in the next weeks, with a variety of poses.  If you have any ideas you’d like him to illustrate, let me know!

Also, recently, I’m trying to filter in some Christmas imagery.  Both photography and 3d renders:

October Portfolio Update

October 7, 2009

Sorry for the quietness recently.  My wife and I took a Royal Caribbean cruise last week to celebrate our 15 year wedding anniversary.  No internet for me for 7 days!  Ouch :)

Of course, while I was gone, lots of new imagery into my iStockphoto.com stock image portfolio to keep things fresh, so here’s an update on the new stuff.

Football Player

Fall means … football!  Got a great looking, athletic, new model for this series of an American Football Player.  Official and authentic football helmet, uniform and pads – cleats too!  There’s some great expressions in this series, along with some humor.  Oh, and some beer and wings – good for advertising bar parties or tailgate parties – whatever.  I cleaned out the local supermarket of 4 lbs of hot wings to put this set together.  There are also some more dramatic images in the series on a blue background.

Thanksgiving Turkey

Next on the plate, a great humor-based series for Thanksgiving (USA).    Two of my popular models, a golden, roasted turkey for Thanksgiving dinner, the fixings and … brussels sprouts.  Some funny expressions in here, and the series is isolated on white, making it easy to drop into a website, blog or newspaper article.  In addition, there are some more realistically lit and set images in the series.

3D Man

Lastly, this week, I have a new 3d rendered series.  It features a “stand out” orange colored 3d guy, in a variety of situations, holding a variety of props.  If you have ideas or needs for this series, please let me know!  I enjoy doing the modeling and texturing for these.  It’s a conceptual series, representing “everyman”, so it can be used for all kinds of things, and it is on a white background for easy dropping in to reports, brochures, magazines, etc.

That’s it for this week. Again, if you have any iStockphoto questions, as a buyer, feel free to get in touch with me, and I’ll see if I can blog to help you out.  Thanks!

Portfolio Update

September 22, 2009

Autumn is my favorite time of year.  I like the changing of the leaves, the chill in the air, Halloween and wearing jeans.  I also enjoy getting the kids back to school.  Buying new supplies, meeting teachers and fun activities.  So, I’m slightly late for getting this new series into the iStockphoto.com collection, but they’re applicable for year round use, not just “Back to School”.

Set in an elementary classroom, we have:

  • Asian American Female Teacher
  • Caucasian Male Teacher
  • Caucasian, African-American and Hispanic students, ages 7-11 (elementary aged)

Bright colors, shiny desks and chairs and big smiles make this a positive educational series, great for any school related usage.  Topics include studying, reading, computers, flu/swine flu prevention and personal interaction.   Check out the images below…

Portfolio Update

September 9, 2009

Time for a portfolio update!  It’s been a while, so here we gooooo….

From this post, most of my new images shot at the iStockphoto.com “HQ lypse” in Calgary are online.  You can get to them with the link below.

At The Pediatrician

Now, for the new, fun stuff.  The last of my trio (triage ? :) ) of medical/doctor photo sessions.  You can see these other physician related shoots here.  The emphasis in this shoot was on ethnic diversity and environment, as well as a more edgy composition and processing style.  This royalty free image series features a Caucasian, African American and Hispanic doctors, nurses and patients, including a baby.  The theme here is really “Pediatrics”.

There are even a few addressing vaccinations, which can be used to illustrate school or child issues with the H1N1 or Swine Flu virus.

These can all be found, with the others, in the link below.

Halloween Kid Group

Last year, I had done an exterior costume set up for Halloween, around the theme of “Trick or Treating”.  This year, I refreshed my isolated shots with a group of three 7-8 year old kids, dressed as a pirate, witch and skeleton.  I think these turned out very well, for all the problems I had keeping them out of the candy.  I think you’ll find this series stands out from other contributors’ work on iStockphoto, and will come in handy for this holiday season.

You can find these, and more, at the link below…

Next Time

There’s a whole new series starting to come through the iStockphoto queue, and I’ll showcase those next time.

iStockalypse Preview

August 10, 2009

We just finished the 3 day “HQ” iStockphoto iStockalypse.  A “‘lypse” is where iStockphoto sets up a series of photo shoots over several days and contributors from around the world can attend, learn, shoot, socialize and be part of the community.  This one took place in Calgary, where the headquarters of iStockphoto resides.

Anyhoo, I thought I would throw out a preview of a few images you’ll be seeing in my iStockphoto portfolio in the upcoming weeks.

Keep an eye out!

Recent Portfolio Additions

July 27, 2009

Last week, I was family road tripping through my hometown of Pittsburgh (food reviews coming this week) to Hershey, PA, and back.  However I did manage to notice that my iStockphoto.com download total has now passed 500,000 licensed pieces of content.  That’s an exciting milestone, not for any practical reason, but just to be able to mention “a half million”.

In addition, I had my first image featured in the bi-weekly promotional iStock/Getty “Hot Shots” newsletter:

july_update_1

While this doesn’t particularly seem to have boosted sales, views are way up, which may or may not be a good thing.

Anyways, that image is part of this weeks portfolio update.  The theme for this shoot was “Doctors”, which is always useful, but here, I was aiming for production value and model variety.  Let’s see the model line up:

  • Caucasian male – 70s
  • Caucasian male – 20s
  • Asian American female – 20s
  • African American female – 30s
  • African American male – 30s
  • Caucasian female – 20s
  • Hispanic male – 20s

Also in the mix, were requests for doctors to not always be wearing scrubs or lab coats (casual or business wear), as well as using professional equipment like stethoscopes, pdas and computers.  We’ve got physicians training, teaching, both in an environment, and isolated group poses.  It’s all there!

Also, new in the mix is a new theme for me: “Hospital”.  This royalty free stock image series features a mid-adult male, child, and models in the 20-30s age range, in a hospital setting, which in this series, means a patient in a hospital bed.  I made sure to include lots of useful copyspace on many of these, as well as some more candid type images.

This series can be found within this search: http://www.istockphoto.com/file_search.php?action=file&userID=351711&text=hospital&order=4

… and a big thank you to all the buyers for helping over that “half a million mark”.  Feel free to contact me with any stock image ideas you have or can’t find out there.  Cheers!

This Week’s Portfolio Update

July 1, 2009

The heat in St. Louis has finally broken.  We were up near 100 degrees last week!   I spent a few days with my son at summer camp, and boy, was that ever tropical.  Even the pool was warm.

In the meantime, two new occupational/everyday series are mostly online at iStockphoto.com .

The first is a revisiting of a topic from a few years ago: The Delivery Person.  Last time, we just did packages, but this time, I added flowers and balloons as well.  To really set the mood, I rented a delivery van and created some signage for the side of it.  I hope it adds some authenticity.

For more of the shipping series, see: http://www.istockphoto.com/file_search.php?action=file&userID=351711&text=delivery&order=4

The next series is also a revisit.  “At the Veterinarian”.  However, my earlier set was all isolated.  These are in a more realistic setting, with a variety of housepets: a rabbit, cat and two dogs – golden retriever and a peke-a-poo .

More new stuff appearing in the upcoming days and weeks, so please stop by and check out my portfolio if you have a chance.  As always, feel free to contact me if you have any stock subjects you need covered.

Portfolio Update

June 3, 2009

Ok, I know I said I was going to post another portfolio update last week, but I’ve been very busy processing files, taking time out to rant a bit about Good Morning America.  Anyways, let me point out some new collections of royalty free stock imagery I’ve been adding to my portfolio at iStockphoto.com .

I did a session with a school bus and some elementary school students two years ago, but I had trouble with scheduling and got them online a little too close to back to school time.   Planning worked out a little better this year, so I’m happy to present (with enough lead time) this new series with a great, photogenic group of teenagers for “Back to School” session.  Now, you’ve got all summer to work these into your designs!

Up next, the news is always discussing childhood obesity and the need to get out and excercise.  Also, youth sports are always big spring and fall activities.  Available now is this “Girls Soccer Team with Coach” series, for anyone working on article about youth soccer, or even advertisements.  It’s also about self esteem and success.

I’ve got two more series to fill you in on, but I will wait a day (or more ;) )  just to spread it out a bit.  Thanks!

Portfolio Update

May 20, 2009

Some new work from a new model on iStockphoto.com .  I’ve teamed up with a new attractive model in her mid-30’s with a great smile and attitude.  Most of our first session is available now in my portfolio at iStockphoto.com .  The first session includes a reshoot of an earlier theme, packing boxes, and some doctor/nurse related white card images.  I just find the “white card” image so useful.  Maybe it’s just me, but I can just see so many newspaper and web uses for it.  For the uninitiated, the “white card” image is a person peering over or around a “white card” – see below.

Also, I’ve got a new series with a young male dressed in a space suit costume being imaginative and playful.  Good for science articles or things about imagination…

Guess what?  Another portfolio update tomorrow!  Sorry to pimp, but I’ve got some great new stuff online and available :) .
